Sew in Love is a group of women who like to quilt, sew, knit or crochet. We meet every Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the quilt room. Our ministry is to make comforting items for the abused women and children who flee to our local abuse center (The Friendship Center) for help. They usually go there with nothing but the clothes on their backs, so we try to provide something that gives them hope and lets them know there are people in our community who care about them. Every woman gets a quilt and every child gets either a quilt or a fleece blanket. Besides the quilts, we fill our tote bags with mugs, place mats, pot holders, and small soaps and shampoos that folks contribute from their travels! We have a wonderful fellowship among all of us and we just plain have fun. We bring our lunches, so around noon we sit down together and share our lives. Not all of our members are from Our Redeemer’s Lutheran but they enjoy being here with us and sharing their talents and love.
At Christmas time we gather together all the Christmas stockings that have been contributed (around 14 or 15) and stuff them with all kinds of things such as pencils, little perfume samples, note pads, dishcloths, and various other small items. In the top of the stocking, we place little hand knit caps and scarves. Then we fill about 14 Christmas mugs with different candies and candy canes. We deliver these items to the Friendship Center and they distribute them as is appropriate.
