HAHH Receives Second Grant from Thrivent

Helena Area Habitat for Humanity (HAHH) has received another Thrivent Builds grant for 2007. This $55,000 grant will be used for construction of one of four condominiums at the intersection of North Oregon Street and Billings Avenue. Construction on this and one other unit is under way. The grant will be bolstered by additional contributions from the four ORLC work crew raises a wall Lutheran churches in Helena, and at least 50 percent of the volunteers for the project will be drawn from the Lutheran community.

This Habitat house will be purchased by, and become a home for, a single mother and her three children.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans became Habitat for Humanity International's largest ally as a result of a four-year $105 million commitment to help increase Habitat's home building production. Thrivent also rallied its national network of nearly 3 million members to volunteer. The alliance gives local Habitat affiliates the opportunity to work with more low-income families toward achieving Habitat's mission of eliminating substandard housing.

In 2006, the first year of the alliance, 313 families in 43 states achieved the dream of home ownership. In its second year, the alliance is again increasing Habitat's home construction by working with 256 Habitat affiliates to build 355 homes. The Helena Area Habitat office received a $60,000 grant from the Thrivent Builds program, which enabled not only the construction of a home in East Helena, but also provided significant strengthening of the HAHH staff. The construction supervisor is now able to be on the job full time, so work can proceed more quickly. A half time office assistant and a half time volunteer coordinator also have been hired.

Volunteers are needed to assist in the construction process and to provide lunches for the volunteers. Construction activities will generally take place on Wednesday and Saturday. Please contact your church representative listed below if you can give some time for a great cause:
